When does my life insurance policy end?

When you apply for a life insurance policy, you will decide how long you’d like the cover to last – this is known as the term of your policy.

This fixed period can last from 5 years up to 40 years, or until you turn 79. Your policy will end at the end of the term selected when you start the policy, or when you turn age 79.

Cancelling your life insurance

Policies can also be ended before the end of this fixed period, if you choose to do so. If you want to end your policy before the term is up, we make it easy. You can cancel at any time, by phone or email, and there’s no hidden fee for doing so.

See our terms and conditions for full details of cancelling your life insurance policy.

Life insurance vs life assurance

When your policy’s term ends, you’ll no longer be covered for life insurance which means you won’t have to pay your premiums and can apply for a new policy, depending on your age.

You won’t receive a payout if you don’t die within the term of your life insurance policy. This is different to life assurance, which guarantees a payout no matter when you die, but does tend to involve paying higher premiums.
