Life insurance for electricians

As an electrician, your work can be demanding. You’ll be dealing with electricity every day which can be hazardous and you’ll often be at the top of a ladder. Whether you work for yourself or you’re employed for a bigger company, it’s important to think about life insurance.

If you have children, a mortgage, a partner or debts life insurance will protect your family financially if you pass away.

Does life insurance cover electricians?

Yes, life insurance does cover electricians. Once you have a policy in place, it will protect your family and dependents financially if you pass away.

It can be harder to get life insurance if your job is viewed as dangerous. Being an electrician can be hazardous and can pose a risk of injury, but it shouldn’t affect your chances of getting life insurance. When you apply for life insurance with us, we will ask you about your job to determine the level of risk.

What life insurance is best for electricians?

It isn’t necessarily your job as an electrician that will dictate the best kind of life insurance for you. It comes down to your personal circumstances and where you’re at in life. Most people think about life insurance when they have children or buy a home. You may also want to consider it if you have debt or a partner that relies on you financially.

Some of our electrician customers opt for a policy to cover their mortgage. This will be what we call decreasing cover as the level of cover decreases in line with the size of your mortgage. Another option is to leave a cash lump sum for your children in later life. This figure will remain the same throughout the term of your policy, and is called level cover.

At Beagle Street we will help you find a tailored life insurance policy that works for you and your family.

How much does life insurance for electricians cost?

The cost of your life insurance will depend on a range of factors, including the type of cover you choose, your age, health and wellbeing. When you apply for life insurance with us, we will ask you for a range of information including:

  • Your age – your policy will likely cost more the older you are, as you are more likely to get a serious medical condition that could impact your health.
  • The type of cover – level cover can be more expensive than decreasing cover.
  • The length of cover – whether for the full term of your mortgage or once your children reach a certain age.
  • Your health status – if you’re a smoker or heavy drinker it can affect your premiums.
  • Any pre-existing medical conditions – these include heart attacks, multiple sclerosis, stroke or diabetes.

You must also be a UK resident aged over 18 to apply for life insurance. It’s important to be open and honest about your health and personal situation, so we can get the right cover in place for you.

Do I need specialist life insurance for electricians?

No, you don’t need specialist life insurance for electricians. At Beagle Street, our life insurance policies are built around you and how you want to protect your family.

We will take into account your job and employment status – whether you’re employed or self-employed – as well as your other personal circumstances. If you’re a self-employed electrician, you won’t have the security of a Death in Service benefit from your employer making life insurance extremely important.

Will critical illness cover payout and cover electricians?

Critical illness cover pays out a lump sum to support you financially if you can’t work due to a serious condition like cancer, heart attack or stroke.

Electricians can apply for critical illness cover. However, if you’re unable to work due to an injury or illness that isn’t on the list of critical illnesses covered by your policy, it won’t payout.
